Meet Chazzy

jChazzy is an almost three year old Labradoodle who was trained to be a facility dog by Paws Giving Independence. The organization has a very controlled, systematic process from obtaining to training, and ultimately matching the right dog for the right job. Chazzy was chosen for his loving temperament, gentle and friendly nature. Chazzy has gone through formal obedience training, extensive temperament training, multiple public access testing, attending classes with one of his trainers at Bradley University, working with children in large groups as well as working with children with Special Needs.
He continues to attend training classes monthly along with his handler Sue Hale; who is an Occupational Therapy Assistant assigned to Schramm Educational Center. Sue has gone through more than 25 hours of direct contact training with Chazzy through Paws Giving Independence which includes public outings, learning commands, completing assessments with Chazzy and participating in a number of events in the community with him. Sue continues to receive ongoing training and consultation provided by PGI during ongoing monthly training classes on site in Peoria at PGI’s training facility for Chazzy’s working life. Sue and Chazzy are very excited to be part of Schramm and to help our wonderful students grow and learn.

Chazzy has had a very busy start to this new school year at Schramm. He’s already gone on a field trip to a pumpkin patch, enjoyed Homecoming Week, and dressed up for Halloween in addition to spending time in the classrooms. He is looking forward to the Holiday season and all the fun things he’ll be doing with the students.

Happy New Year everyone- Chazzy has had a very busy holiday season. He visited with Santa both at Bass Pro Shop and during our Christmas programs at Schramm. He spent time in the classrooms visiting with students and taking part in some of the classroom lessons (SmartBoard, attendance, asking for "more" bubbles/treats). He loves playing in the snow and being out in the cold weather.  Brrrrrrrr!   Plus he turned 3 years old on January 13th- Happy Birthday Chazzy!  He can't wait to see what fun things are in store for the new year.

February is over and Spring is on the way! Chazzy is very anxious for the warmer weather to be here so he can go outside and run around the playground with all his friends at Schramm.  He made some new friends during a visit to Lincoln Elementary School in Morton; continued to visit with the different classrooms at Schramm, and sat in on a few lessons in the classrooms. He can’t wait to see what the Spring season has in store as he continues to to spend time with all the students at school.

Spring has come and now we are almost into summer.  This year went by so fast and Chazzy has had so much fun with all his Schramm friends; he has spent time taking part in Bus Duty every day as he meets his friends, he got to play on the playground and had some delicious Kona Ice on Fun Day, he spent time in the classrooms and even went to the graduation ceremony in May.  He loves all his friends at Schramm and is looking forward to working during summer school and for the next school year.  Have a wonderful summer everyone!
