Autism Services

Amber Ealey, Program Coordinator

TMCSEA provides a wide array of services to districts, students, and families to assist in building effective educational supports for children with autism spectrum disorders. These services include autism assistance, staff development training, lending library, ADOS evaluations and a variety of resources for both schools and home.

Autism Assistance Team

This team is comprised of a group of highly trained individuals from a variety of disciplines who observe the student within the school setting or at home and provide recommendations as well as examples of visual supports, social stories and other social supports and ongoing ideas for accomodations and modifications.

Staff Development Training provides basic overview of characteristics of autism spectrum disorders and how to better assist those students in the classroom and school environment. Trainings can be modified to meet a specific district's need.

The Autism Lending Library is located at Schramm Educational Center, 300 Cedar Street, Pekin, IL 61554. There are over 100 titles that can be checked out to member district staff. Contact Belinda Frankel, Receptionist/Secretary Schramm Educational Center.

Autism Diagnostic Observation Scale (ADOS)

The ADOS is a semi-structured, standardized assessment of communication, social interaction, and play or imaginative use of materials for individuals who have been referred because of possible autism or an autistic spectrum disorder

The goal of the ADOS is to provide standardized information concerning the diagnosis of autism in the areas of social behavior, use of vocalization/speech and gesture in social situations, play and interests. Structured activities and materials provide standard contexts in which social interactions, communication, and other behaviors relevant to autistic spectrum disorders are observed.

IATTAP

TMCSEA partners with the Illinois Autism Training and Technical Assistance Project to help build local capacity in establishing effective educational supports and programming for children with autism spectrum disorders. This includes weeklong Experiential Practicum during the summer for representatives from our member districts as well as on-going support throughout the school year with site visits, networking meetings and resource lending.
