- My name is Maribeth Bohlmann & I have been teaching Living Skills at Schramm Educational Center for 15 years. In Living Skills we use a task analysis for instruction. A task is broken down into simple steps, usually 4-5 steps, with a picture representing each step. As the student completes the step, they remove the picture and when all pictures have been removed the student knows that the task in finished. Throughout the year we work on various tasks related to daily living. These include, learning to use the washer & dryer, learning to load & unload a dishwasher, learning to set the table, cooking and baking simple recipes, & learning to dress appropriately for the weather. This year we are also using technology based instruction with our Ipad. All of our tasks are visually displayed with recorded instructions step by step and the students initiate each step by tapping the next button. I am finding the students are very focused and really "into" this type of instruction! We are having a lot fun and looking forward to a very productive year.
