The TMCSEA Satellite Programs are a K-8 self-contained special education program for member district students with cognitive and multiple learning challenges in need of a functional curriculum. These two classrooms are located at Rankin School District #98, Pekin, IL. Instruction is provided in the classrooms, school and community and integration is provided with typically-developing peers. Job coaching for the older students in the school and community enhances the transition process. Students are assessed through the Illinois Alternate Assessment, with scores indicating progress. Teachers and paraprofessionals participate in ongoing staff development.
Tips For a more functional curriculum:
- Visual supports enhance communication.
- Student jobs in the classroom and school building teach responsibilitiy and job skills.
- Teaching personal identyfing information is important.
