How do I obtain services for my child through TMCSEA?
Because TMCSEA serves as a support to 21 member districts, referrals for programs and services provided by the Association first come through the local school district where your child resides. The Districts employ District Level Special Education Administrators who will complete a Request For Services to access those programs and services provided by the Association that will support you, your child and the school districts. You can certainly contact the Association to learn more about programs and services offered and arrange for a visit of our facilities. Our personnel will work cooperatively with the local school district in coordinating the Request For Service form to officially start the referral process and access to TMCSEA programs and services.
Do you have student records at the TMCSEA office?
No, the records are kept in the student's home school district. Please contact your local school district Special Education Coordinator for more information.
Do students need to be receiving special education services to access transition services?
No, transition services are provided to students 14 to 21 who have an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and are also provided to students who have 504 Rehabilitation plans and who are also identified by the Department of Rehabilitative Services (DRS) offices as needing transition services. Transition services are accessed by a referral process. Contact TMCSEA and its Coordinator or assistant for Specifics.
What steps are needed to address placement considerations for a child's attendance at the Schramm Educational Center?
Referrals for student placement (ages 3-21) come from the local educational agencies through a Request for Service form. Students are placed through the IEP process and openings for student placements are ongoing. The Association encourages parental, staff and community visits/observations of the Center. Interested parties can work through their local school district's special education office to coordinate a visit or they can contact the Schramm
Educational Center (SEC) office at 309-346-1186 and ask to speak to the Assistant Director to schedule a visit.
What are the "costs" associated with obtaining services from TMCSEA?
Member districts are billed for a shared cost to operate the cooperative. Classes, programs, and professional services are then billed separately. Student consultations/evaluations and district training are paid for through the IDEA Grant. Consultations and trainings are limited to three visits. Costs for the Association's services are determined annually and approved at the August Policy Board meeting of the Association. District costs are based on student enrollment and degree of contracted services purchased.
